I looked at Art Basel's report for the first half of the year and really wanted to say "thank you" for the detailed demography and labour market in the art world. Therefore, today it is not about collectors, but about employees (although everyone was watched and reported. I'll write about the rest later). The first thing that catches the eye and surprises a little after 2020 is that the galleries are still focused on offline sales. 75% of them have exhibition space, and only 4% are only online. Yes, collectors buy online, but only after consultation or through expert selections. Next, this is dry demographic analytics, where I found myself a "typical gallery owner." This is a person who identifies herself as a woman under the age of 40 and has a higher bachelor's degree. However, usually, such a person is hired as a commercial director or sales, and the founders of galleries in 54% of cases are men. So, to sell art, you need to have at least a bachelor's degree, and in third cases - better than a master's or PhD. Although there are exceptions - in DPI and antiques women are more likely to become founders, and more men work in hiring (53% M versus 47% G) That's such entertaining statistics.
